Spartans Fast Start Leads to Big Win vs Maroon Giants

The Lakeview Spartans Soccer team defeated Kalamazoo Central 2-1 on Monday night. The Spartans improve their record to 8-4-2 (1-3-1 SMAC) while the Maroon Giants fall to 7-4-2 (2-3 SMAC). The Spartans play again on Tuesday September 21 vs Mattawan at Home.

Game Summary

The Spartans came out strong and scored in the first fifteen minutes against Kalamazoo Central. After pressing hard most of the first ten minutes, the Spartans found the back of the net on a Corner Kick by Sophomore Andy Ignatovich who found Abram Thang who connected on a volley in the top right corner of the net. The Spartans were not done in the half as they kept a strong attack going and off of a rebound and misclear Mathew Bacik found the back of the net on powerful strike into the upper corner of the net to go up 2-0. The Maroon Giants didnt go away, scoring early in the second half to make it a 2-1 match. However both defenses held their own and game ultimately ended. “K Central is a great team and we really brought the energy to start off the game” Coach Trent Heil stated. Heil was impressed with the fight and composure the team played with. “This team was focused and is doing the little things better, the focus was great and we stuck with what we knew we could do to have success.”

Ben Ignatovich had 5 saves for the Spartans.
