The Spartans Soccer team improved their record to 2-0 after beating Jackson Northwest 9-1.

The Spartans started off the game strong against the Mounties (0-2) with a nice volley strike outside of the 18 yard box by Matt Bacik from a brilliant pass by Alex Elliott.

That fueled the fire for the Spartans as they scored five more goals in the first half.

Sophomore Luke Borozan got into the mix with a left footed banger into the side netting off of a missed defensive clear.

Junior Abram Thang scored a hat trick in the first half with two assists coming from Sang Sang and the other from a Penalty Kick. 

Elliott got into the Goals column with a breathtaking header driven into the back of the net with authority from a cross from Sang.

In the second half the Spartans poured on the goals scoring three times in the next ten minutes.

Sang Sang got his first goal with a beautiful through ball from Thang beating the goalie on a break away.

Thang then connected for his 4th goal of the game from an assist from Bacik.

The game ended with Uk Pi finding the top corner of the net from just outside the 18 yard box also assisted by Bacik.

Ben Ignatovich had 3 saves in net to lead the Spartans.

Coach Trent Heil was elated with his team’s performance. “We wanted to start off with a lot of pressure, we knew Northwest was going to be a solid team as they finished in the Top 3 of the I-8 Conference and returned nearly everyone and had a team full of seniors.” Heil continued, “We really connected really well from the start, from our defenders to our mids, it allowed us for opportunities and the boys did a great job finishing their chances at the net.”

The Spartans will next play this Saturday in Lapeer in the Lightning Cup and will face state powerhouse teams Berkeley, Troy and Lapeer.
