Spartans fall to the Knights in SMAC Opener

The Spartan Soccer team were defeated by the Knights of Loy Norrix on Wednesday night by a score of 2-4.

The Knights got on the board late in the first half on a set piece outside the 18 yard box with a shot just out of reach of goalkeeper Ben Ignatovich. However, the Spartans immediately responded with a great connected piece with Andy Ignatovich finishing on a beautiful pass by Sang Sang.

With the score knotted at 1-1 at half time, the Spartans were caught off guard and allowed a goal in the first 20 seconds in the 2nd half. The Knights kept coming as they scored two more goals in the next ten minutes.

The Spartans attempted a comeback in the final 20 minutes with another score from a Andy Ignatovich corner kick with Mathew Bacik finishing. The Spartans never gave up, but ultimately ran out of time in the match.

The Spartans record drops to 3-2-1 (0-1 SMAC). They next host the Maroon Giants of Kalamazoo Central on Tuesday at 6:30pm.
