Spartans win LHS Invitational

The Lakeview Spartans won the 2021 LHS Spartan Invitational. The Spartans defeated Kalamazoo Christian in the Semifinal and then went on to defeat Allegan in the Final. The Spartans improve their record to 5-3-1 on the year. They will play again on Tuesday when they host the Huskies of Portage Northern.

Game 1 

Lakeview 7 Kalamazoo Christian 0

The Spartans defeated visiting Kalamazoo Christian 7-0. The Spartans were led by Matt Bacik with 2 goals and Abram Thang with a goal and 2 assists..

The Spartans led 3-0 at half with first goal coming from Sang Sang with assist by Thang followed by a goal by Matt Bacik. Thang then scored the last goal of the half with an assist from Hung Ling.

In the second half Matt Bacik scored his second goal of the game from an assist by Thang. Nain Mana scored his second goal of the season just minutes after. Eelis Karhu scored the 6th goal of the game from an assist by Stephen Jopaul, and Hung Ling scored the final goal for the Spartans.

Ben Ignatovich and Luke Rebhan combined for a shutout with Ignatovich saving 2 shots.

Game 2

Lakeview 8 Allegan 0

The Spartans defeated Allegan in the Championship of the LHS Spartan Invitational. Offense was plentiful for the Spartans. The Spartans scored in the first 10 minutes of the game and the offense kept rolling. Abram Thang led off with a beautiful pass from Alex Elliott. Matt Bacik then scored from outside the 18 yard box from an assist by Abram Thang. Soon after Sang Sang got into the scoring action with an assist from Luke Borozan. To finish the half, Uk Pi scored on a Corner Kick placing the ball in the upper corner of the net.

In the second half, Matt Bacik scored his 9th goal of the season with an assist from  Abram Thang. Alex Elliott was rewarded with his perseverance with the 6th goal of the game from a pass from Andy Ignatovich. Soon after Hung Ling got open into space near the 6 yard box to finish from an assist from Anthony Hughes and then Hung Ling returned the favor with an acrobatic assist to Anthony Hughes who ended the game with a header.

For the second time in the day, Ben Ignatovich and Luke Rebhan combined for a shutout.
