Lakeview Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team earns 9^th Place Tie Finish in the

2018 MHSAA State Division II State Tennis Tournament

The Lakeview Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team continued their excellent season by finishing tied for 9^th place out of 26 teams in the MHSAA Division II State Tennis Tournament on October 19^th and 20^th.  The Spartans finished with 10 points in the tournament.

The Spartans earned two point victories from #1 Singles Jai Banerji, #2 Singles Cole Henkel, #3 Singles Cole Einhardt, and #4 Singles Vikram Strander.  The Spartans earned one point victories from #1 Doubles James Hager/Jacob Van Dis and #3 Doubles John Avery/Connor Miller. 

The players and their results from the State Tournament:

#1 Singles Jai Banerji defeated Jonas Evers/Port Huron 6-2, 6-2 and then lost to Gabe Liss/Birmingham Groves 7-6(1), 6-2.  #2 Singles Cole defeated Garrett Vanglider/Holly 6-2, 6-3 and then lost to Gabe Vadinas/Birmingham Groves 6-1, 6-1.  #3 Singles Cole Einhardt defeated Jared Slezinger/Gibraltar Carlson 6-2, 6-1 and then lost to Sakeeth Kamaraju/Midland Dow 6-1, 6-1.  #4 Singles Vikram Strander defeated Ryan O’conner/Traverse City Central 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 and then lost to Rohan Shah/Okemos 6-0, 6-0.  #1 Doubles James Hager/Jacob Van Dis defeated Max Mulka/Ben Graatsch/Auburn Hills Avondale 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 and then lost to Chase Berden/James Turner/Traverse City Central 6-1, 6-1.  #2 Doubles Kooper Etheride/Adam Schrader lost to Josh Hash/Cal Raymond/Galbraltar Carlson 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. #3 Doubles John Avery/Connor Miller defeated Kevin Kim/Steve Hu/Midland Dow 6-1, 6-3 and then lost to Max Levistky/Cameron Lee/Birmingham Seaholm 6-1, 6-0. #4 Doubles Brenden Barnes/Sohom Desai lost to Owen Thamban/Walker Sjolin/Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central 6-2, 6-2.

Coach Jeff Van Dis Quotes:  Our team had a very special year.  I couldn’t be more proud of this group of student/athletes.  We really jelled as a team and supported each other throughout the year, and I think that made a big difference in many of our successes. The players set goals with high expectations this year and worked very hard to accomplish them.  Some of our successes this year included: 15-0-3 dual record, Jenison Quad Champion, Sturgis Invitational Champion, All-City Champions, SMAC Tournament Champions, SMAC East Conference Co-Champions, and Division II – Regional 9 Champion.  We were ranked in the top 10 in Division II throughout the year and to finish in the top 10 is a tremendous accomplishment for our players.”
