Levi Youmans is a State Champion!

Lakeview's Youmans is state champ in diving

For a couple of years, Lakeview's Levi Youmans has been working toward winning a state title.

This year, he finished the job.

Youmans finished first in diving and was crowned the state champ in the event at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 State Swim Meet at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday.

Youmans had a final score of 483.25 to take first by more than 30 points over second place.

"Last year he was in the thick of things, right there at the end, but just came up a bit short," Lakeview diving coach Willie English said. "I think that left a bitter taste in his mouth,  being so close, and ever since then he has worked really hard to come back and win it this year."

Youmans, a two-time All-State diver, was seeded second in the event with a qualifying score of 449.20. He won his regional while setting the Grand Rapids Northview pool record with a score of 449.60. Youmans finished Friday in first place after the semifinals in diving. Youmans had a semifinal score of 326.35.

"Been working hard for the past three months and to finally get what I was shooting for, that's pretty cool," Youmans said. "Everything felt right today. My first dive went well and it just went from there."

Lakeview had two other state placers. Chaz Lumpkin finished 14th in the 200 IM and Blake Little finished 12th in the 100 butterfly.

"Excited that we were able to bring home a state title for Levi. Great meet for him," Lakeview coach Kyle Lott said.
