Lakeview Boys Varsity Tennis currently at 1st place in SMAC Tournament on Saturday, September 29.
The Lakeview Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team continued an excellent season by finishing with 19 points in the SMAC Conference Tournament. There is one more match to be played Monday by St. Joe and Mattawan to determine the final outcome. If Mattawan wins then the Spartans take sole first place for the tournament. If St. Joe wins then the Spartans are co-champions with St. Joe. So far the team standings are:
Lakeview – 19 points
St. Joe – 18 points (possible 1 more point)
Portage Northern– 18 points
Portage Central – 18 points
Mattawan – 13 points (possible 1 more point)
Gull Lake – 11 points
Lakeshore – 9 points
Kalamazoo Central - 6 points
Kalamazoo Loy Norrix – 5 points
Niles – 2 points
Battle Creek Central – 0 points
Each of the Spartan teams earned at least 1 point in their flight.
#1 Single Jai Banerji was 1-1 for the tournament. #2 singles Cole Henkel was 1-1. #3 singles Cole Einhardt took second place going 2-1. #4 singles Vikram Strander took second place finising 2-1.
#1 Doubles James Hager/Jacob Van Dis took second place going 2-1. #2 Doubles Kooper Etheride/Adam Schrader took second with a 2-1 record. #3 doubles John Avery/Connor Miller were 1-1 for the tournament. And #4 doubles Brenden Barnes/Soham Desai got a forfeit win before losing a close match to St. Joe.
Congratulations to the Spartans to keep themselves undefeated for the season and finishing ahead of state ranked Portage Northern, Portage Central and Mattawan.
The team also finished their dual record at 15-0-3 during the week and is now looking forward to competing at the Regional Tournament on October 11th.
