We are now 9-2 on the season and in 1st place in the SMAC. We have won big games at Kalamazoo Central, Gull Lake, and just beat a 9-1 Lakeshore team by 21 points at home on Tuesday, the 24th.
We have over come some early season injuries and sicknesses but the wheels of the "buss" keep going round and round. This team is exciting to coach and to watch. They play tough man to man defense, share the ball of offense, and shoot it pretty well, too.
Our seniors have done a TERRIFIC job leading this team on and off the floor.
Emily Eldridge-is our most productive player statistically. She averages a double-double despite the fact that other teams KNOW she's our most productive.. She is also a team leader with Margo Miller. She is being recruited by KCC, Alma, Adrian, and others at this time..Emily is also a volleyball player.
Ava Cook -is super dynamic. She can score( 2nd leading scorer on the team) but she does so much to create opportunities for her teammates. Awesome in the open floor and one of the VERY BEST on the ball defenders i have EVER coached. Sje can LOCK you down. Gary Payton "the Glove" would be proud... Ava is the first player college recruiters ask about BUT , she is playing soccer at GVSU next year...
Chloe McAllister- is another talented guard who can score and play defense. She is probably our most instinctual player and is very competitive... You will see her harassing the opponent with great ball pressure and she likes to up the tempo in transition . she likes to go, fast and quick. A lot like Ava.. Chloe is also being recruited by the same schools that are interested in Emily.
Margo Miller- is the brains and calmness to our operation. She's the quarterback of our team on and off the floor . She is also a very capable 3-point shooter.
Jessalynn Genier- One of the best shooters I've ever coached for a Post player. Jess can play with her back to the basket but thrives whole facing the basket. She can really shoot it. She is really working hard on being a better rebounder and post defender. She has made GREAT strides this season. Jess is also being recruited by the same schools..
Hunter Garland- has come off the bench and provided defense, rebounding , and the ability to score especially off the bounce. She is very athletic and has a great left hand. Hunter also plays soccer.
Madison Stewart- is improving everyday. She is a back-up post player who plays with great energy and enthusiasm. She has developed a very nice mid-range J-shot.
Karlie Kucharyczk - A 10th playing her first year on the varsity ...may have the most college potential of anybody I've coached. AND that's saying a lot. She has terrific size and length, with guard skills. She can really shoot, drive it ,and pass it. and she's getting stronger everyday. Maybe her best characteristic, her mental toughness. She is a "plug-n-play" player... meaning she has shown up since day one and done everything we've asked of her without any drama , excuse, injuries... I thought she was pretty good to begin with BUT she has been way better then advertised for a 1st year player. It will be fun watching her development over the next 3 seasons. Karlie is our only 3- sport athletes that plays basketball. She also plays on the Varsity V-ball and softball teams...
Sunshine Johnson-is just returning from an ACL injury suffered last June during a summer scrimmage. She had surgery in July and returned to the court 6 months to the day. She worked her way into the starting line after the mid-way point of last season and is desperately trying to work her way back into the rotation this season aster missing the first 8 games. She is a very hard worker. She was so determined to get back on the court. I have NEVER seen a young lady work harder to return to the court. It was/is truly inspiring. Sunshine is appropriately named... She truly is a ray of sunshine for our team. She is very enthusiastic and care deeply for her team and teammates. Nobody deserves success more then Sunshine Johnson. She has great skill around the basket and is a very good rebounder. We are working on getting her confidence, feel, and timing back. and getting herself back into basketball shape. We are also working to develop her shooting range, facing the basket, and her left hand!
