Lakeview Girls’ Varsity Tennis
Regional Tournament
Date: 5/19-20/2017
The Lakeview Spartans Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team finished the Division 2 Regional 9 Tournament tied for 5th place out of 12 teams. St. Joe won the tournament with 17 points. The Spartans finished the tournament with 10 points.
Lakeview had one regional champion in #4 Singles Haley Lesiow. Haley defeated Claire Dirette in the finals from Portage Northern by the score of 6-3, 7-6 95). Haley also defeated Mattawan’s Steffi Haenicke by a score of 6-1, 6-3 and Gull Lake’s Jayne Flynn 6-1, 6-2.
The #4 doubles team of Brigitte Colquhoun/Kelsey Marquez were regional runner-ups out of the 12 teams. They defeated Sturgis’s Yoquelet/Kelley 6-3, 6-2, Portage Northern’s Buehler/Sharma 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (5) and Zeeland East’s Meeuwsen/VanDam 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, before eventually losing in the finals to champion St. Joseph’s Service/Osborn 6-1, 6-2.
Other players to who had one win in the regional were #2 singles Michelle Zhang, #1 doubles Mei Abe/Breh Ruger, and #3 doubles Kendall Johnson/Madison Schrader.

St. Joseph – 17 points – 1st
Mattawan – 15 points – Tied 2nd
Portage Central -15 points – Tied 2nd
Portage Northern -15 points – Tied 2nd
Battle Creek Lakeview – 10 points – Tied 5th
Byron Center – 10 points – Tied 5th
Zeeland East – 10 points – Tied 5th
Gull Lake – 9 points – 8th
Sturgis – 8 points -9th
Coldwater – 5 points – 10th
Battle Creek Central – 1 point 11th
Niles – 0 points – 12th
The teams of St. Joseph, Mattawan, Portage Central and Portage Northern all qualify for the state tournament.
The Spartans finished their season with a 9-5-1 dual record.
