Lakeview Girls’ Varsity Tennis

Regional Tournament

The Lakeview Spartans Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team finished the Division 2 Regional 9 Tournament in the middle of the pack of 12 teams.  Portage Central won the tournament with Byron Center second.  Complete results will be known soon.  The Spartans finished the tournament with 10 points. 

Lakeview had one regional runner-up in #4 Singles Co Nguyen.  Co first defeated Marvic Cardenas from Holland from by the score of 6-2, 6-3.  Co then defeated Byron Centers’ Jackie Domeier 6-0, 6-0.  Co finally lost in the finals to Portage Northern’s Veronica Lennon 6-4, 6-3.

The Spartans also got victories from other flights.

After a first round bye #2 Singles Breh Ruger defeated Ashna Mehra from Portage Central by the scores of 6-4, 6-3.  Breh eventually lost to Byron Center’s Madelyn Crandell 6-2, 6-4.

Kyla Marquez, #3 singles, won her first match against Byron Center’s Betsy Veldman 6-2, 6-2.  Kyla eventually lost to Anjana Krishnan from Portage Central 6-1, 6-1. 

The #3 doubles team of Brigitte Colquhoun/Kelsey Marquez  had a first round bye and then defeated the team of Holland’s Alaina Barnhardt and Vivi Book by a score of 6-1, 6-0.  They eventually lost to Portage Central’s Allison Sachwitz/Kimberly Kovacik 6-3, 6-2.

The #4 doubles team of Madelyn Cawnhlun/Nung Sung won their first match by forfeit and then their second match against Portage Northern’s Megan Chow/Katie Larason  6-1, 6-4.  They were eventually defeated by Byron Center by the score of 6-0, 6-2.

The Spartans also had strong efforts from the following players who lost in their first match.

# 1 Singles Haley Lesiow lost to Gull Lake’s Jessi Crandell by a score of 6-2, 6-2.

#1 Doubles Lauren Helner/Stella Huang lost to Holland’s Milah Behren/Eli Davis by a score of 6-4, 6-1.

#2 Doubles Sharon Huang/Libby Robins lost to Gull Lake’s Gracie Devore/Caitlyn Morgan by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
