Lakeview Girls’ Varsity Tennis

Regional Tournament

The Lakeview Spartans Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team finished the Division 2 Regional 9 Tournament today with 6 points and finished tied for 7th place.  

Lakeview got four victories in the first round from its four singles players. #1singles Ari Banerji defeated Nylayiaha Smith from Battle Creek Central 6-0, 6-0 before losing to Casey Smith from Portage Central 6-1, 6-0. #2 singles Breh Ruger defeated Jayne Flynn from Gull Lake 6-1, 6-1 before losing to Liz Novak from Mattawan 6-0, 6-0.  #3 singles Co Nguyen defeated Paola Martinez from Zeeland West 6-0, 6-0 before losing to Romika Shokohl from Mattawan 6-2, 6-1.  #4 singles Kelsey Marquez defeated Grace Portenja from St. Joe 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 before losing to Camryn Baney from Mattawan 6-1, 6-1.

The Spartans also got victories from other two of the doubles flights.  #3 doubles Sophia Pwe/Ngun Sung defeated Bans/Miller from Battle Creek Central 6-0, 6-1 before losing to Harper/Bowersox from Sturgis 6-2, 6-4.  #4 doubles Elizabeth Ngun Cer Sung/Rosie Zuun defeated Wiard/Lemonova from Sturgis 7-6, 6-3 before losing to Inman/Penner from St. Joe 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

The Spartans also had strong efforts from the following players who lost in their first match.  #1 doubles Elise Norman/Libby Robins lost to Cech/VanEyck from Zealand East 6-0, 6-2.  # 2 doubles Brigitte Colquhoun/Sharon Huang lost to Cornelius/Lueck from Gull Lake 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.

The Spartans finished their dual match season with a 10-5-3 record.  The Spartans also finished with a SMAC East title as well as an All-City Title.  Congratulations to the Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team on an excellent season.

The team standings as of Friday evening were as follows with one match still to be played between Zealand East and Portage Central which will not affect the standings.
